Are you living in Plattsburgh or the surrounding area this summer? New to the area? Or simply looking for something fun to do while visiting campus?

Plattsburgh has a lot of amazing summer opportunities! From food and drinks, to sights and events, we’ve got a comprehensive list of some “must trys” for a summer in Plattsburgh.

Trivia Night: Plattsburgh Brewing Company

Grab your friends and try your hand at trivia at this local hot spot that serves freshly brewed beers and mouthwatering food. Trivia is played in small rounds, with a winner for each category; winners receive a tasty treat from Perkins! Trivia is offered on Wednesday nights at 7:00pm at this centrally located bar and restaurant.

Plattsburgh Farmer’s and Crafter’s Market: Durkee Street City Parking Lot 

Every Saturday, from May 13th until October 7th, Plattsburgh offers a local market in the pavilion in Durkee street’s parking lot from 9:00am to 2:00pm. The market offers a variety of fresh produce, and locally made items such as jams, baked bread, paintings, soaps, and maple syrup! A fun way to support your local farming and crafting community!

Soft Serve Treats: Ice Cream at Harrigan’s, Dairy Shoppe and Happy Pike 

There are several seasonal ice cream shops around Plattsburgh’s surrounding area that are an essential summer treat. Harrigan’s located in Morrisonville has a variety of soft-serves (including dole whips), Dairy Shoppe in Beekmantown has some incredible swirls to add to your soft-serve (like maple and mocha), and Happy Pike in West Chazy has donut cones. That’s right…DONUT cones. Enough said!

Adirondack State Parks: Point Au Roche

Point Au Roche State Park, on the northwestern shore of Lake Champlain, is a mixture of open and forested areas, most of them natural and undeveloped. The park’s large day-use area has a protected, sandy beach and picnic facilities. Boating and fishing are popular activities, as are volleyball, softball and other games.  The park’s trails, including nature, hiking, and biking trails, wind through interesting habitats, from forest to marsh to shoreline. The trails are in use all year for school programs, nature hikes and cross-country skiing.

Plattsburgh City Beach: 4 Beach Road

Just minutes from downtown Plattsburgh on the shores of Lake Champlain, the Plattsburgh City Beach is one of the largest freshwater beaches in America and boasts beautiful views of Lake Champlain and the majestic Green Mountains of Vermont. The park features access to over a mile of sandy beach, a designated swimming area, picnic tables and outdoor grills, a concession stand, kayak rentals, restrooms with showers and a nature trail.

Ausable Chasm: Keeseville, NY

Known as the “Grand Canyon of the Adirondacks,” Ausable Chasm offers adventure trails, rafting, tubing, rock-climbing, and biking. Discover the natural wonders of this incredible chasm and descend hundreds of feet to walk on natural stone walkways to gaze upon the geologic history of the Adirondacks etched in stone. Hike, float and/or climb as you go back in time when you come to Ausable Chasm to experience one of the oldest natural attractions in the United States!

Amazing Grace Winery: Wine Tasting and Concerts in West Chazy

During June, July, August, and September, Amazing Grace Winery in West Chazy offers a summer concert series including local musician Taylor LaValley and Murder Mystery Dinner Theaters. The winery is quaint, family-run, and provides delicious homemade menu items,  and award winning wine blends. The prices are reasonable and the view is unbeatable. It’s worth the drive!

The Clinton County Fair: CC Fairgrounds, July 18th-23rd 

The Clinton County Fair offers a fun community and family friendly environment filled with rides and games. The venue also boosts that it exposes Plattsburgh civilians to the amazing agriculture that our county has embraced for hundreds of years. This summer, come on out and see a piece of our agricultural heritage and history. Plenty of events will be held this summer  including entertainment shows and concerts, the airborne demo derby, and the 4H exhibits. From food, to rides, to shopping, and animals, there’s something for everyone!

Corner-Stone Bookshop: Margaret Street 

One of Plattsburgh’s hidden gems, this book store is a multiple-floor, brick-and-mortar used book store that is truly a reader’s paradise! It’s a great place to browse the shelves if you’re looking to discover something new, or cozy up in a quiet reading place to escape the summer heat. Grab a Koffee Kat coffee next door and get lost in this whimsical book land.

 

Whether you’re around for the summer or you’re in the area visiting, we highly recommend any of the places above as some soulful summer fun!
